IMD extends heat warning till tomorrow
Panaji: Goa will have experienced 10 consecutive days of a yellow-coded heat alert starting from March 2, after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) extended the heat warning for Goa to March 11.
The hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over isolated pockets of the state during this time.
Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 35-37°C over Goa, according to the IMD forecast.
“It looks like there is a point of no return, as we will be experiencing more and more hot and warmer days in the latter half of the pre-monsoon season, as the entire global temperatures are showing rising trends,” said meteorologist and retired NIO scientist, M R Ramesh Kumar.
There is no immediate relief from these conditions anticipated, as the IMD alert said that dry conditions will prevail until at least March 15. For the next 48 hours, the skies will be clear, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 35°C and 24°C respectively.
The IMD advisory warns residents and tourists to avoid prolonged heat exposure between 11am to 3pm. Citizens are also advised to drink sufficient water at regular intervals, even if not feeling thirsty, to avoid dehydration.
