MLA Jitendra Awhad criticizes Thane development plan, claims it favours builders, displaces residents

THANE: The draft Development Plan (DP) prepared by the Thane Municipal Corporation was created for the benefit of builders, alleged MLA Jitendra Awhad of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction). "Don't ruin citizens' lives. We will strongly oppose this plan," Awhad warned.
On Sunday morning, citizens, along with Awhad supporters, gathered at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Kalva to protest against the draft Development Plan.
According to Awhad, the roads proposed in this development plan will displace 300 to 400 buildings. "I raised this issue in the previous assembly session, after which the Chief Minister promised an investigation. The Chief Minister is expected to address this issue in the session," said Awhad.
"Whoever prepared this development plan must be blind because the proposed corridors run through playgrounds and residential complexes. Citizens have invested their life savings in these homes. The govt needs to answer where these people will live now," Awhad stated.
"It's unclear exactly who this development plan was created for. We cannot accept development that displaces people. We will strongly oppose this plan," Awhad warned. He also accused authorities of preparing the plan specifically to benefit developers.
