Pat McAfee just poked the bear or in this case, an entire country. In a classic mix of praise and trolling, the sports personality said what no Canadian fan ever wants to hear: that Sidney Crosby should be playing for Team USA. Of course, it’s all love from McAfee, but his tweet had hockey fans spinning, laughing, and maybe just a little bit panicked.
Sidney Crosby does ‘Sid shit’ again and McAfee wants him on Team USA
Sidney Crosby being a beast on the ice isn’t anything new. The Pittsburgh Penguins legend has made a career out of clutch performances, captain-level leadership, and calm dominance under pressure. So when he recently pulled off another classic “Sid move,” even Pat McAfee had to tip his cap.
But in true McAfee fashion, the praise came with a hilarious twist.
“I still think he should be playing for America.. NONETHELESS.. Sid’s doing Sid shit,” McAfee tweeted.
It didn’t take long for the NHL world to light up.
Fans were quick to flood McAfee’s replies with a mix of laughter, pride, and straight-up disbelief. Crosby has been the face of Canadian hockey since forever, he literally scored the golden goal in the 2010 Winter Olympics for Team Canada.
So for McAfee to “claim” him for Team USA? That’s just pure chaos and the internet loved it.
Sidney Crosby wearing a Team USA jersey is never happening. But McAfee’s comment works because it shows just how good Sid still is. Even at 37, the man plays like it’s 2010 all over again. McAfee’s tweet was more about admiration than anything else but in classic Pat style, he had to stir the pot a little too.
And honestly? NHL content is way more fun when McAfee’s involved.
So while Canada can breathe easy, Team USA fans can dream and McAfee can keep being the funniest wildcard in sports media.
