BGMI developer KRAFTON faces allegations of data breaches, contract violations, and unauthorized sharing/selling of user data, raising concerns about digital privacy in India. An FIR was filed against them at the Akluj Police Station, Maharashtra, on September 5, 2024, for which the Bombay High Court has scheduled a hearing on April 15, 2025.

Santosh Torane, a Maharashtra-based Indian citizen, had filed an FIR against Krafton India Pvt. Ltd. and four of its executives for violating the service agreement by disclosing and selling Torane’s personal information to external parties on Telegram, allegedly for a “sum of around ₹2,000 per subscriber”. This goes directly against Krafton's contract that ensures the user data security be upheld at the highest standards.
The charges listed in FIR No. 474/2024 include criminal conspiracy (IPC 120-B), cheating (IPC 420), and violations under Sections 72, 72A, and 85 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.


Following the submission of evidence by Santosh Torane, Judicial Magistrate First Class directed the Akluj police to investigate the case on August 28, 2024, under Section 156(2) of CrPC. Krafton India has since filed two writ petitions in the Bombay High Court, seeking to stop the investigation.
Justice Sarang V. Kotwal and Justice Dr. Neela Gokhale, of the Bombay High Court, have clubbed the petitions and scheduled a hearing tomorrow on April 15, 2025. The truth behind these severe data breach allegations will be revealed, and the future of BGMI will be decided tomorrow.



Krafton India Pvt. Ltd. has denied all the allegations and assured the BGMI community that data security is at the top of their priority list and fans should wait for the legal proceedings to conclude, before jumping into conclusions. Here’s the official statement issued by Krafton:
“At KRAFTON, the protection of personal data is of utmost importance to us, and we are committed to upholding the highest standards of data security. As the matter is currently sub judice, we believe it is best to wait for the legal process to conclude, after which we will provide any necessary clarifications.”


As the truth behind the allegations is yet to be revealed, it is uncertain whether a BGMI ban will take effect in the near future. The future of BGMI hangs by a thread, as players are eagerly waiting for the Court hearing on April 15, 2025, to shed light on the matter.
