NOIDA: A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting and dragging a German Shepherd, his neighbour's pet, for nearly 10 to 12 kilometres by a car in Greater Noida's Dankaur for barking at his son.
The child, out to play on Wednesday, got scared and fell to the ground when the dog barked at him. Minutes after he ran home crying, his father, Amit Sharma, came out of the house with a stick and brutally assaulted the dog.
Sharma, police said, did not stop at that. He tied the dog to his Scorpio and dragged the animal for nearly 10-12 km, leaving it critically injured.
Sharma, who owns a medical shop in Dankaur, was arrested on Friday afternoon, after a complaint was filed by his neighbour and the dog's owner, Sudhir Indoria.
The complainant claimed on Wednesday that he had left the dog tied to his gate, and Sharma's son had first hit it with a stone. The scared dog jumped on the child, causing him to fall.
"After some time, the boy's father came and started beating my dog. He took the dog and tied it to the back of his Scorpio. He dragged the dog for more than 12 kilometres. The dog has sustained severe injuries," he said.
Indoria and his family were inside their house when the dog was attacked.
"Sharma left our dog at the gate and sped away in his vehicle. I shouted at him, but he didn't wait. I then took my dog to an animal hospital for medical treatment immediately. The dog is still under treatment. The accused also threatened me with dire consequences if I submitted any police complaint," Indoria said.
Station house officer Dankaur Munendra Singh said on the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered against Sharma under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
