‘Was 1st to be shot; others got chance to escape’: Pahalgam attack victim Shubham Dwivedi’s wife seeks martyr status for him
KANPUR: As the nation is seething with anger over the Pahalgam terror attack, the widow of 31-year-old businessman Shubham Dwivedi, one of the victims, has requested the govt to grant him the status of a martyr. The couple was married on Feb 12.
"I urge the govt to honour my husband with the martyr status. People often forget the victims' families, such as those in the Pulwama or Pahalgam attacks. No one cares about how they are managing; everyone moves on. But we don't want Shubham to be forgotten. Therefore, I request the govt to grant him martyr's status, so that he is remembered, and we can find some peace," Aishanya Dwivedi told reporters.
Recalling the horrific attack, she said, "The first bullet was aimed at Shubham after the terrorists asked if he was a Hindu or Muslim. When Shubham was unable to recite Kalma, they shot him. In such a situation, others got some chance to become alert and escape."
She further mentioned that "the family's greatest sorrow is that Shubham's face was completely disfigured, preventing us from seeing his face for the final time".

"I urge everyone to extend our message to the govt, so that Shubham can be recognised as a martyr," she said.
Shubham's uncle echoed the same sentiment, saying, "There is anger along with grief in our hearts. We demand the govt to grant him the status of a martyr. We want the future generations to remember his sacrifice. If the Prime Minister or Chief Minister meet us, we will place this demand before them."
Shubham, a newlywed who had gone to Kashmir with his wife for a short vacation, was among the civilians killed in the attack on April 22.
