MADURAI: A 17-year-old caused widespread damage early Monday morning after he operated a JCB excavator at Sellur in Madurai.
The incident occurred around 2.30am when the youth unexpectedly started the excavator and drove it into several parked vehicles, including auto rickshaws, bikes, and a car.

He continued to drive the machine for about half a kilometer along 50 Feet Road, also damaging a portion of a building and some signboards, and nearly running over a security guard.
Locals eventually nabbed the teenager and handed him over to the police. Authorities are investigating the incident, including the possibility of intoxication and the motive behind the vandalism.
