India pull out of Central Asian Volleyball Championship, Pakistan federation confirms

India has withdrawn from the Central Asian Volleyball tournament in Islamabad. The Pakistan Volleyball Federation announced India's cancellation. A delegation of 30 members was expected. The reason cited is the Pahalgam terrorist incident. Diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan have worsened. Afghanistan or Sri Lanka may replace India. NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) announced on Sunday that India has cancelled its participation in the forthcoming Central Asian Volleyball tournament in Islamabad.
PVF representative Abdul Ahad confirmed that India had initially committed to sending a delegation of 30 members, with 22 players, for the championship commencing May 28 at the Jinnah complex.
The diplomatic relations between the two countries have deteriorated following the April 22 terrorist incident in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
"The Indian Volleyball officials have informed the regional body that their government has cancelled the NOC issued to them for the tournament after the incident in Pahalgam," Ahad said, as quoted by PTI.
"It is disappointing to know India has withdrawn from the championship and they will be replaced either by Afghanistan or Sri Lanka."
The competition is set to feature teams from Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
